Like many mentioned, drought in midwest, plus a very high number of ducks breeding, not just teal. Big duck season should be good also.

Oh, and Frick Ducks Unlimited, they are responsible for our lack of ducks over the last several years

As long as we have water we have plenty of birds, mallards though are the exception and yea I blame DU. This year though that is going to change, aww yea.

I am making a trip up there, hence me asking where you were guiding.

Do you have flappers in your decoy spread? AKA Mojo ducks? They work great! Also, anything that makes the water ripple, ducks love it and will dive in. I think it is the reason the ducks come diving in while we are in the water picking up dead ducks or picking up decoys, making the water move.

Shut the frick up.

J/k... we've been using a jerk string for years. We do a "Y" where two jerk strings merge and come back to one cord in the blind. It puts ripples in both bodies if the wind allows you to set your spread as such.

Gotcha, I'm guiding in La when I come home over Christmas, but my lease is up around the Cache River about an hour from SE Missouri

I used to hunt the Black River, and some fields in Walnut Ridge up in NE Arkansas back in the day. I hunted Dewitt, AR a few years ago and had a good hunt. I just never get up there anymore.

Plan on getting a guide for the first day to get the hang then hitting up White River NWR on our own.

I hear you, I'm pretty excited considering I'm from La and I only saw mallards when I'd hunt in Tensas. I wanted timber, but rice was the only thing available. I'm optimistic though considering our fields are tucked in between a reservoir and a really successful timber lease

How did you land the guiding gig if you dont mind me asking. Used to help a buddy of mine guide when he had to many customers but he lost his extra leases so he got out of it.

Bring rocks to throw in the decoy spread while ducks are circling, to make ripples. No joke...

I was asked to by a buddy of mine, figured it doesn't get much better than getting paid to kill ducks and meet new people

Trust me it can suck as well, just depends on the client. Usually the more $ they have the worse it is. Saying that though I would jump all over another opportunity to get back into it.

Did you do that THIS morning? If you did, we probably hunted together.
