Buddy and I are looking at giving it a shot for archery deer. Probably try public land but not opposed to a guide if anyone has good references.

What time of the year will you hunt? Why Arizona? Mule deer or Cous? Unless you hunt a reservation, most land holding deer will be public.
The monsters are north of the Grand Canyon on the Kaibab Plateau. The best time to hunt is latter in with rifle. Almost impossible for a non resident to draw without many years of points.

That can be a good hunt. Overall, probably low kill percentages.

Well that's the problem, Arizona and New Mexico are the only state and neither are easy to get tags in. The couple places in Mexico I looked at want an arm and leg not to mention the chance of loosing your head to the cartel.

Hmmm, I'll have to look into the rifle tags, I built a rifle just for coues and antelope and have yet to hunt either still.

And F that kind of worry. I know people that hunt the border and run into illegals crossing, who knows what else is coming across and who they might be dealing with in the USA.

I've ran into illegals in south Texas. I was bow huntin a brush pile one time and 3 came by with back packs and what looked like aks.. luckily the deer had cleaned up my corn and they didnt notice me. I've had them jump out of the box blind when you pull up in the dark..
I'm planning a mule deer hunt now for next year. I'm still deciding on state and checking prices on guides..

I love going out west. If I could I'd make a hunt every year.

Not hard to get Coues tags. The problem for me is timing. January is a good time in Arizona, but I’d be giving up good hunting at home. NM is earlier, like November, I believe.

I’m also intrigued by the little deer. Of course, you could have a similar hunt watching large cut overs and shooting yearling bucks.
