I did GM Smackdown last year. Teal hunting was not a problem. Most hunters were set up east of the highway.
Where at east of the highway? theres no "east", just highway 308? we're going to be making teal opener on our lease, but probably out of paddle distance from ya'll

The bowfishing pressure in the area is becoming a problem though.
no, its not. we do have a problem with trespassers though, especially bowfishing when we aint there... and during big duck season

How does this conversation make sense? It sucks for people fishing there because you have been bowfishing the crap out of it...now there is no problem.

its not a problem because its a perfectly legal activity
but realized that we're out of yak range anyway. I got GPS coordinates to the honey hole back there, for a price

The definition of problem isn't "an illegal activity".

How far is it from the launch, my furthest paddle trip was 8.5 miles round trip from where I launched and I've heard others who paddle even farther.

two of my buddies have camps before you even get into the lake, but the area is fished out.. bad.. without us bowfishing it.
it would probably end up being close to 5 miles round trip, if you decide to go in a straight line and not follow the main channels, but that's from besson's not the public launch

I fished PAC on my yak on Friday and Monday. Skunked on Friday (as were a few other yakers I talked to). Monday I caught a few small reds and lost one big one. I used dead shrimp all morning with no luck, and by the time I figured out which artificial to use, it was already getting hot out.
I did poop my pants due to a couple Dolphins surfacing a foot from my boat.

Posted on 8/26/15 at 1:33 pm to Mark Makers

The hunting last year was the other side of Bayou Lafourche. I can not explain it but that's where all shots came from. I've seen blinds up around Sulfur Mine but strangely never ran across anyone in them during hunting season last year.
There has been a definite decline in redfish for the area. A lot of the kayakers think that the all night pressure from bow fishing has had an effect on redfishing. I've also seen bowfishers and tournament flat boats in the area run the banks to spot (spook) reds against the bank and call it "scouting".
8.5 miles is a little below my average of 7 miles round trip when I paddle. When I pedal, I can put some distance in. Not unheard of for me to do 12-15. Some tournament guys do 15-20.
The GM Smackdown winner from last year is an active TD OB poster. I'll let him chime in on the area.

literally down there every weekend, might see one or two boats every other time going.

I can vouch for the big tower boats and skiffs pulling this shite, literally screwed up an entire day of fishing for me because of it. that and the gator tails cutting through the marsh screws stuff up more than the one to two boats every other weekend.

What I despise more than anything as a kayaker is air boats "marsh hopping". Wife and I had to stand up and wave our arms at an air boat that was coming across the grass in Delacroix not too long ago. Then he had the nerve to kill the motors and ask if we needed help. Just didn't want you to run over us fricker.

i dont have a very nice yak, but 4-5 miles kills me
cant imagine 12

What direction in relation to Sulfur Mine do you fish? I usually fish from Catfish Lake to Sulfur Mine and east. Never been to Bully Camp but might make the trek this fall.

we don't have many airboats at all, but the ones doing the survey work are notorious for that. I was in my 14 foot aluminum boat and almost got hit by them just riding around driving bamboo pickets

between the mines and the lake and further south of catfish lake. winter time we move up west of the mines which goes back to bully camp.

fyi, for me its a quicker ride from PAC than besson for bully camp

I've tried to paddle up Grand Bayou once. Never again.
