some of the deeper parts of the spillway are pretty remote.

When you say 'spillway', do you mean Bonne Carre or Atchafalaya?
Cause I'd disagree with you if you meant Bonne Carre, but agree on Atchafalaya.

I like the Chandelier Islands response. Remote does not mean unvisited, to me it means distance from the nearest electricity or gas pump.
Same here. The interior of Marsh Island is pretty remote as well, as is Pointe au Fer - although not as much as the Chandeleurs.

The Basin?
South of I-10 down to Lake Verett. If you ever get out of a boat out there its pretty remote. I'm not saying its in accessible or hasn't been visited in decades, but it certainly meets the definition of remote.

My Battledore Reef story:
I went out here with a college bud and a friend of his that grew up in Delacroix Island, Milton, I'll call him.
Milton had killed the trout out there during the week. We went straight there and dropped anchor and started catching a few, but it was slow. There are just a few small rigs out there and he made me pull the anchor and he oriented himself by triangulating with 2 distant little rigs to get on his spot. This was before GPS, maybe 30 years ago.
He motored about 200 yards, slowly. yelled "drop the anchor". He killed the motor. I opened a cold beer and took a sip and didn't take another sip until the beer got hot. We were fishing with double rigs and were shaking 2 trout off the hooks into the bottom of the boat, stopping every once and awhile to pick them up and put them in the box. I need not add that this was before limits, but I just did.

Remote by cell service, yes. Otherwise, people hunt all over the place in there

Hop in the boat an run 100 miles south of Venice, kill the engines and toss the electronics, doesn't feel much more remote than that......

Yeah, I'd like to set some standard nomenclature here.
I've always been of the mind that "The Basin" refers to the Atchafalaya Basin, while "The Spillway" refers to the Bonne Carre Spillway.
Any way we could make this official on the board to avoid confusion?

When I hear spillway, I never think of anything but the basin.
Posted on 5/19/14 at 4:40 pm to jimbeam
Most people I know around NOLA refer to the spillway as the Bonnet Carre.

That's kind of how everyone refers to the Atchafalya Basin in my area. Never thought any different. Just called it the spillway

I've heard both, but the Spillway is more common.
...and that ain't by the Atchafalaya Basin.
