Just disk the shite into powder and then sling the seed out, then disk it 3 or 4 more times about a month earlier than you need to like every other dumb arse in the south.
If you’re lucky enough to get a stand, have fun with the army worms.
In all seriousness, first couple weeks in October is ideal, but it is dry as hell usually. If you can plan ahead and get your shite disked and smoothed out in August and get some rain to refill your moisture profile, you’ll be in good shape. Will have to fight a few weeds, but you’ll have moisture to plant into.

Or buy a drill and don’t disk. Don’t worry about rain.

Whenever the rains allow. Preferably early-mid September. Have planted in late August. I had rather kill army worms than plant mid-October. MS Delta

I threw out some vetch today and then bush hogged the field. The wheat, oats, red clover, etc were tall and dry.
Hope it will do ok. It’s a little late but vetch is ok to plant later.

You ever had Crimson come up after that? I had a bunch this year, and I am shocked it came up in early June and I still have a good stand. Never would have thought that shite was possible in early June in Ms.

It should. It went to seed but this is only my 3rd year. I sprayed and disked last year prior to planted so, I can’t say.

I’m gonna plant something in late July to try my new Saya 507 drill. Any suggestions for a few very small plots in recently logged areas? True feeding plot, not for hunting

You can play with the ground ( disc, fertilize, like) if you have an itch that needs scratching.
I don’t put see down until 3rd week of Oct. drought and army worms

Joint vetch, Buckwheat, peas. Be prepared for worms during that time frame. I’m already spraying for them in vetch and millet.
I would get a bag or 2 of your fall mix and do that. That way you will already have your setting right for that bunch of seeds. With them being different sizes you might have to frick around until you find specific settings you want to plant at. If it comes up and survives great if not you will at least know the setting for that specific blend.

Great idea!
I’ve never had to deal with army worms
