I was on a hunt recently and noticed the guy calling was using what I guess was a pintail whistle when the ducks would get in close. What's the reasoning behind this?
I do this all of the time. Most of the loud hail calls will flare the birds some once I get them interested I usually try to decoy them with a whistle. Teal, Pintail, Wigeon, Wood Ducks, even mallards all have some type of whistle.

My Buck Garner broke last weekend. I have going to have to get a new one before the second split starts.

Speaking of calls, any of you S. La baws have an old Riceland you'd sell or trade? The older double reed with removable tone board, not the current production Arkie style call. Thx.

Gaston's Bayou Bengal is my go-to call. Love at first sight and it's very versatile in the fields or the flooded timber. Had this call for quite some time.
