What’s the best spray to kill everything before laying new sod at New construction house?

Man the weeds are out of control. They will definitely come up through the new soil and sod if left untreated.

What’s the best spray to do beforehand?

Round up will kill most of what you have. Make sure you don't have torpedo before your contractor installs new sod over it. Is your property graded with river sand?

Hasn’t been graded out yet. What type of soil should be brought in before we lay sod?

Round Up or a generic equivalent is pretty much all you need. You can add some pre-emergent week killer so long as you are not seeding grass.

If you blast the area with Roundup will the new sod take?

We like to use native top soul that is screened and cut with mason sand. Avoid river sand for sure if you are already having weed issues. Have you spoken with or selected a landscape contractor yet

Get glyphosate. It’s the active ingredient in round up but does a better job smoking everything.

Depending on your timeline I may be able to help you out. I can at least give you free advice. Audubon Landscape on the northshore.

I just killed all the grass in my yard (Bermuda) and put in new sod (Zoysia). Tired of fighting the weeds and losing the battle.

I scalped my yard back in March, and applied round-up 3 different times as the grass started coming out of dormancy. I wanted to put my sod down near the end of April, but the unusual cold snaps coupled with it being fairly dry, put me a month out on getting it laid. From everyone I talked to, just to be safe, spray Round-up (or something) about 2 weeks before you lay the sod.

If you are bringing in a load of topsoil, have it dumped and spread, then spray it. From most everything I read, you could lay the sod in a week and have no issues. My sod looks great and is taking root pretty good.

On a side note, Round up is 18% Glyophosphate (active ingredient) You can find cheaper stuff at a higher concentration. I found some knock off brand that was 43% Glyophosphate at Lowes. Takes a lot less to get the job done.

No, it isn’t. Unless you’re referring to Roundup Pro, which I don’t think you can get at big box stores. You want something with over 40% glyphosate as the active ingredient. What most refer to as “roundup” from a box store is significantly watered down.

I suggest QualPro Glyohosate Plus.

Yep. Only places around me that have that are Tractor Supply, Atwoods to local hardware stores. Local farmers coop probably has some good stuff too. I've pretty much quit going to the box stores for my yard or garden stuff.

Just bought one gallon of Knock Out weed killer at Lowes. 41% Glyphosate for $41 dollars.

The Round Up Pro is also 41% Glyphsate at $170 for two gallons.

They do have a Round Up Super Concentrate that has 50.2% Glyphosate for $110 per gallon.
