What type of gun does $119 buy you nowadays?

The boy and I grabbed some biscuits and gravy this morning and went out searching for myself a suppressor ready 22LR bolt action. I was hoping to find a FV-SR locally but struck out. Only threaded 22 bolt guns I found was a Bergara which was very nice but I wasn't a fan of the 90 degree bolt lift, and a CZ457 Jaguar who's 28" barrel really isn't idea as a suppressor host. Oh yeah a nice Ruger American that was cerakoted gold with a camo stock but that one really wasn't my cup of tea though it was my son's favorite. The last place we stopped was at Academy. Only 22LR bolt gun they had was the Rossi RB22. The rifle felt small thin and light in my hands. As soon as I put it in my boy's hands his eyes lit up. He's 11 so even heavy barrel 22LR's feel too big for him. But he fell in love with this one as soon as I put it in his hands. The thin narrow stock just fit his 11yo 80lbs frame better than anything else we had looked at. He started making promises of mowing the yard for the rest of the year for free if I would just buy this rifle. It was on sale for just $119. I told him to go pick out a case while I do do some paperwork.
First thing we did was clean it up when we got home. Dirty was an understatement. The barrel looked like someone poured a bunch of dirt down the barrel. I'm not sure what type of ammo they test fired this with but it might be the dirtiest 22LR I've ever seen. Initial bolt throw is stiff which is what you would expect with a 60 degree bolt throw. A little stiff but not gritty and the action moves smoothly. Hopefully it will loosen up a bit with some cycling. The trigger is surprisingly not bad at all. The pull is a consistent 5lbs 1oz on my Lymann trigger pull gauge. Not light by any means but not heavy either. It has a nice smooth take up with no grit or creep and a clean break with very minimal overtravel. The stock is narrow and light but I like the shape. It has a good high comb. The stock fiber optic sights were actually very nice and easy to line up but I had to remove them to mount the scope.
My son dug through the spare gum parts drawer and stole my UTG scope because he likes flip up caps, and stroke a old military style loop sling. Rifle came stock with sling studds so no need to do anything but mouth up the stuff and go. I did a quick Bore sight and she's ready to sight in. My son is super excited and has been cycling the action working it loose. We'll be at the lake house tomorrow so I'll let him shoot it in the woods tomorrow and sight it in.

Is it threaded to host the silencer or buy it just because?
Either way I know he will love it.
And if you find a normal Ruger Precision, get it.
It's a fun little rifle and shines when suppressed.

Kid probably won’t sleep tonite. He’s higher than a kite thinking about a stringer of squirrels. Good for you Dad.

Great gun for him. Wish I'd gotten a 22 when I was young. Got a 20 gauge shotgun when I was 10, and never had any other guns until I got a Wingmaster and a 22 for squirrels in high school. Really enjoy shooting as much, or more, than hunting, and probably would have shot a rifle more as a kid. Back then I could have shot it at so many more places than now.
Hope he enjoys it.

Want to adopt me? I'm 32 but still act like a child sometimes.

Great job, Dad! His offer to mow the yard to pay for the gun shows you did something right too. Thanks for sharing.
