no,not pogies,and I'm almost sure they were Pompano now.
As I said, I caught a very tiny one right up against the bank with my castnet while I was targeting finger mullet.
It was exactly like the little yellow tailed fish in that picture where they're in the net.

The pic of the fish in the net is definitely pompano. I did my research on those little guys. And they do jump - we had to keep nets over the tanks to prevent them from commiting suicide. The juveniles start showing up in the spring, particularly on sandy beaches (Holly Beach, Grand Isle, etc.), and stay around until the fall when it starts getting cold.

I know a 1-4 inch pogey is an awesome trout bait, I wonder if these little pompano are just as good.
