Week long hunt in Alabama and Mississippi and only saw one doe

Fresh scrapes everywhere, rubs, tons of tracks on. both properties. We go every year during this time and spend 1/2 week in Alabama, then the other half in Miss. They rut this time every year and I have never seen anything like this past week. Do ya think it was the moon cycle, the tempature, or something else? This time every year is usually a great time to be in the woods.

Not sure what part of MS you were hunting, but I know for a fact the the rut in NE MS occurred mid to late Dec. When it warmed back up it messed with the deer big time.

Where in AL? I haven't been able to make it home to Greene County, AL since Thanksgiving because of a newborn. I'm going to be down there this weekend for a funeral. It's been a pretty bad year for deer hunting around my family's place in Boligee this year. There have been some nice bucks killed but not as many as usual

Right now is peak rut in southeast MS. I'm on my phone but there's a map mdwf puts out that shows peak rut for different areas of the state, and most people agree it's pretty accurate.
As far as not seeing many deer, I think the huge temp swings has them acting erratic. I've seen less deer this year than ever, but when I have seen them it's been several.

The MDWF info is accurate. Has been an odd year with the warm nights. Tombigbee waterway has been terrible for duck hunting this year.

Deer rut dates don't change due to weather. The does come into estrus same time each year whether it's 20 degrees or 100 degrees. The activity levels can go up or down depending on weather. They can travel and expend energy over a longer period of time when it's cool versus when it's warm deer may not be running around like crazy all day when it's warm but the rut is still happening

Full moon and heat are a bad combo for deer sightings. Good chance those deer have already been hunted hard and just want to disappear.

The MDWFP rut map shows NE Mississippi rut is middle of January (12-24)

Pine Apple Alabama and George county Mississippi. I figured it was the weather. Every year is awesome when we go until this year

We only hunt each place maybe twice per year. They are never pressured.

It has been terrible in east AL.

We hunted hard last weekend with a big group near Woodville, MS and it was incredible how few deer we saw. Hoping it'll be better this weekend with a different moon. Looks like the best day will be Monday which of course we won't be hunting.
