Howdy all,

I have a 5 year Echo 225-SRM weedeater. It has had carb issues for months mainly due to me only using ethanol fuel and almost never mixing the fuel correctly.

Well, today, it would not crank and I cut my finger trying to fix it. Long story short, it's really dead now. I used the neighbors Srm-225. He has the speed head and mine had the bump and run head. I didn't love the speed head, but didn't hate it. I am ordering a new one tomorrow and I am trying to decide if the speed head is worth the extra $50?

Yes, I am buying an Echo. Yes, I might start using non ethanol fuel. Yes, I might start mixing the fuel properly.

I would order a new carb and you should be good to go, also buy the premix fuel in the can and your probs with corn gas will be over.

New carb about $30-$40 bucks
New trimmer over $200
Your trimmer has easy another 8-10 years in it just show it some love.

I thought about that, and very well may try that. I cleaned the spark arrestor and changed the spark plug. Carb was next, but I need one before next week. I hate borrowing stuff and will buy new, if a carb dorsnt come in first.

That looks like the kit my brother bought the other day and the carb was a POS, but it wasn't a Zama so that's probably why, and yes that's a good deal

I was trying to remember how it was that you had yours set up to where your clients paid an annual fee. If you rather not post it here, maybe pm me on TOS if you don't mind.

I usually buy the $40 carbs off Ebay.

Yeah the Speed Heads are worth it!

If you have a Home Depot nearby, check to see if they have any refurbs at discount.

oh I don't mind, maybe it'll be helpful for others. I'm not in that line of work anymore.
With lawn maintenance, I charged an hourly rate. I figured out how many hours the average visit to a particular property was. Most of them got 42 visits a year. During the winter it was every two weeks. So let's just say my rate was $50 an hour, and in our example property, the average visit was 1 hour.
42(visits)×50($pervisit)=2100÷12(months)=175/month, even in months where I only did two visits.
That way my income was consistent throughout the year.

I don't think anyone hates Stihl.

I think Echo provides better value for the $. But that can be debated in another thread. :)

Yeah, that was just an example, and it was also back in the early 2000s. But I guarantee you most of them were more than $50 a visit. It was before Brett Favre built his big Ranch on Highway 98, I cut his neighbors on both sides. And most of my business was in that development.
