Vortex Strikefire Red/ Red-Green Dot Scope

Just an FYI for you folks considering this low cost alternative for your AR's.
Don't
Scope is well made. Rugged. Good mount. Clear with a nice red dot image once you dial down the intensity to suit you.
But they have a glaring..and I do mean GLARING fault. When looking through the scope a vast majority have a goldish/brown reflection from approximately the 5 o'clock to the 9 o'clock position. This is NOT a reflection from outside the scope , but a reflection inside. Something to do with the LED emitter assy. I spoke with a customer service person about it and the reply was it is a meant-to-be-used-both-eyes-open type sighting system.
Thats fine and dandy. It lessens the reflection sticking out in the sight picture, but it does NOT make it go away.
Just for verification I closed the objective (forward) lens cap and sure as chit there was the reflection still, in all it's golden yellow glory.
Real shame as other than this one glich it looks to be a fine scope and steal for the price. Unfortunately that isn't the case with mine or many others Vortex's.
Looks like I'll be using my refund from it for a Burris MTAC instead.
Hope this helps anyone considering purchasing this optic.

You say don't, but then you talk about some of its advantages, with a few disadvantages that could be specific to your scope.

Vortex makes some nice optics but red dots are not their bread and butter. You are not the first person to claim that they were not satisfied with their product.
Leupold makes a nice 1-4 also.
SWFA makes a great 1-4 and 1-6 that are both great. Expensive but great.

$299 for a 1-4 scope.
Not as cheap as the Vortex but much better quality. I figured that the OP learned his lesson and was ready to spend a bit more on quality. Is $300 really a lot to spend on a quality scope?

Depends on what you compare it too. It's cheaper then Zeiss, but it's going to cost more then a bushnell.

Always loved Leupolds. Had them on all my prior hunting rifles back in the day.
Was just looking for something cheaper that would do the job for my lesser AR
My middie is getting an Aimpoint and my LaRue ( whenever it finally shows) is getting a Leupold or possibly a Zeiss/NightForce .
Thus was just looking at some less expensive options for gun number three.
And trying to help out any OBer considering that optic.

I completely understand trying to stay within a certain budget. However, like you have learned, too cheap is too cheap. If you want magnification, its hard to find anything better than the $300 Leupolds. I am looking at the Mark 8 with the 300BLK reticle but they are up there in price.
Contrary to what all I have said, I know that PSA makes some great knockoff optics. They make some Aimpoint micros that get great reviews for pretty cheap. Just an idea.

The hell you say. My vortex has no such thing and has worked flawlessly everytime ive pulled it out over the last two years and the new razor reflex sight is the tits and for you glock fanboys can be mounted to your rear sight

Not enough to support a second lady Hypnos. The first one burns any money I cant squirrel away on tools as it is.

Then you are one of the lucky ones. Google "Vortex Strikefire scope reflection problem"and do some reading.

The key is that if you are shooting both eyes open and focusing on the target instead of the inside of the scope you shouldn't really notice it. The idea is to train your eyes so that you merge the dot with the field of view of your non-dominant eye. That has worked well for me and I don't even see it unless I am looking for it.
