Could you help me understand what you are talking about? I’m a little confused on what you are trying to say.

I'm pointing out just 1 more thing to use, so the spot that you choose to be at, isn't just random. It's another way to narrow down the place you want to be.

I mean, I get what your saying, but if someone is just randomly picking a tree to climb, they probably don't "get it". There's a reason we talk about climbing specific trees, being over specific trails or spots as hunters--it's because that's where the deer are!

Anyone who hunts with archery equipment understands this because of how close we have to be to the animal.

I don't know what is hard to understand about it. You have a choice of places that you can hunt. Some will be better at certain times under certain conditions. You use conditions to help make your decision about where you want to be, instead of just saying " I will go to this spot today, because I haven't been there in a while".
For example : I have a place where I like to hunt in the afternoon. If there is a breeze around here in the late afternoon in gun season, it's usually going to be out of the W or NW, so I will be in the little stand that faces East, it's just at the edge of the tree line, looking out at clearing of about 5 acres. There is a little point of the tree line to my south/right. The Sun and breeze(if there is one) are both coming from behind me. That's also the direction that the deer will be walking out from, so I am downwind from them until they are already out into the field, and I am hidden in shadow.

So wait, are you basing your stand choice on where the sun is, or the wind? Sounds to me like it's wind. Because I guarantee you, that deer isn't coming from behind you because of where the sun is. He's walking down wind because he can smell what's behind him and see what's in front of him.

This right here. I have the cover at my back, so he can't see me, and the wind is blowing my scent away from him until he is already in the field.

So then the sun actually has nothing to do with the way you hunt...

yeah, it does, because the deer are always going to walk out into that clearing from the same direction in the afternoon. If I am sitting on the other side of the same clearing, the deer still won't smell me, but I will be facing into the Sun, and I will have a longer shot that I will have to take, and my movements are easier for him to see, because the Sun is lighting me up.

I guess that is different. I mean sounds great until the first deer that walks out and blows it’s butt off.

To each his own, I guess. It is obviously working for you. I get staying in the shadows, but I couldn’t hunt that spot in that scenario. If that was the only tree available I would have to only hunt it with a South wind.

I gauran-damn-tee you it has nothing to do with the sun. You're telling me if you sit on that tree line with the wind in your face that the deer are going to still walk out there?

Hell no they aren't.

I don't hunt as much as I use to, else I couldn't use that spot the way that I do. I don't even care about horns, I usually just take a big doe every year. My neighbor's son uses that same stand quite a bit though, unless I tell him that I'm going to be there. He only cares about a trophy though, and I don't think he even took a shot from that spot this past season he did say that he saw a couple that were close, but he let them walk.

I never said the wind wasn't a factor. We've already covered the wind and scent. Everybody knows about that aspect. If the wind was blowing out of the east (which almost never happens here), of course they are going to catch your scent. You might as well not be there, but they will walk out from the same direction, everyday, even when there is no wind. Only 1 thing is the same everyday, and that is the direction of The Sun.

So the location they are coming from isn't a bedding area?

There is only one direction they could come from where the sun would be a real issue--the east. There is also no advantage to entering the field from the west on any wind but a westerly wind since one of their most valuable survival tools--smell--is essentially useless.

Unless the reason they are coming from that direction each evening is bedding, and maybe, the only bedding in the area.

And why do you keep capitalizing "The Sun"? Lmao!

They are coming from The Talladega National Forest.

"The Sun" is a proper noun, it's the only one we have, and "The Sun" is the name of it. Proper nouns and names are always capitalized. If you typed "a sun" then it wouldn't need to be capitalized.

I’ve had really good luck between 10am-12 noon.
I went to a guy’s house,he had 5 really nice bucks mounted and he told me he killed them all between 10am-1:00 pm hunting on public land.I hunt private land but I still do best between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon.

Alrighty then. Didn't realize I was talking to an English teacher.

Still doesn't answer the question. Why are they always coming to that clearing from the same direction? Deer don't do the same thing over and over again without reason.

I'm no English Teacher, but it's funny that you say that, considering that you tried to preach to me about capitalizing "The Sun". You started that whole conversation, I was just doing what I was taught in 6th grade.

Man, that would be a great question to ask the deer. All I can do, is watch their behavior, and make a calculated guess, about what they will do. That's why they call it "hunting", and not "slaughtering".

Just like your theory about The Sun and the deer, you're wrong again. Lmao! I wasn't trying to preach to you about it. I just couldn't figure out why the frick someone would keep capitalizing both "The" and "Sun".

LOL, I notice that you typed "The Sun" the correct way. At least you learned 1 thing yesterday. Small steps.
