Trying a gun before purchase

Do gun shops and/or Academy allow you to test out a gun to make sure you are comfortable, before you buy it?

Not sure about academy but most gun shops have a range.

IMO, Precision by far has the best customer service, range qualifications and availability when it comes to guns.

Going to look at shotguns for home defense. Also want to look at pistols, but will be buying a shotgun
