quote:I am going to disagree there. I have seen many people coat their various frames and metal parts without proper prep work and the paint bubbles up after a year or so
they do have some pre treat/cleaners, but you dont really need them
The directions even say to use degreaser then an etching primer before application. It is equivalent to painting regular metal with no etching primer

por-15 or paint?

Ive never had an issue with por15, and my prep work has been limited to wire brush and soap/water.
obviously the more prep the better, Ive just personally never had a need to do it from what I have seen

Por15 does not recommend or need a primer. its made for bare metal.
They seal a wipe on metal etcher but from my 20 yrs exper using it isnt needed.
I have a trailer i painted bout 15yrs ago with it. all i did was wire wheel it and paint with a brush. it still looks new and we drag shite up one it all the time.
You can pull a car with no tires on it and it wont even scratch it.
Uv light does make it fade. buy their top coat if you dont want it to fade.

The ones I have seen problems with are generally in areas where they use a lot of salt on the roads, and are on the back ends of frames.
My thinking is why half-arse something? Make sure it is done as good as you can the first time so it doesn't need to be done again

last question, y'all think I need a pint or a quart of por 15 for this project? the trailer is 21' and I really only need to treat the sides

Get a quart.
Do the whole trailer.
You will never have to touch it again.
You can brush it on and it selflevels

Anybody know where I can find POR-15 in Baton Rouge or south Louisiana? I have called several marine shops and trailer shops with no luck yet.

Ive seen the spot for it in several stores, but they never had it
Im not in BR, but my experiences elsewhere, so id assume the same in your area

Dammit man. I'm either gonna have to use a different product or treat the rust a different day.

Its worth ordering
eastwood will get it there in 2-3 days
