looking for a bunkhouse under 5,000 lbs. Have a 2 yr old and 6 yr old. Would like to stay under $20k.

So many models to choose from it’s hard to narrow it down.

That weight and price will probably keep you in the 18-20 ft range. This will likely keep the master in the living space with a set of bunks next to the bathroom. Forrest River, jayco etc should all offer models with a similar floor plan. Aluminum wall construction and Fiberglas exterior will keep the weight down but increase price. Look at the offerings from KZ for lighter weight and decent quality. I am on my third towable RV and be warned in the sub $80k price range quality is all about the same and spotty at best expect to always have something to fix.

Check out the Grey Wolf line from Forest River.

They have several bunkhouse options.

Open range seems to have lighter weight half ton towable trailers even in 5th wheels.

My current trailer is a 2916 Stryker toy hauler. Love the floor plan but not too happy with overall build quality. SOB is heavy though. Had a 32qbbs Forrest river wildcat 5th wheel Previously and quality was a bit better but still not as good as my first trailer. A spree 290rls by KZ. That trailer was by far the best built I have owned just didn’t have bunks so we sold it after kid number two.

Just find something used that’s well taken care of. Don’t worry too much about brand especially in that size. Even the expensive ones are made with nearly the same components of the cheapest.

Find a a floor plan in the size/weight you want that been gently used and you should be gtg. You will easily stay under see that budget.

We bought a new 28 ft KZ bunkhouse a couple of years ago in the low 20’s. Dry weight is around 5,500 lbs and no major problems yet. Most travel trailers are built cheaply, so just keep that in mind and maintain everything as best you can.
