Yeah, only thing I got today was a yote pullout last night and a genius this am. Had to pull my parters 4wheeler out after it rolled down a 20 foot ditch.

Dude there is no need to use steel jawed traps. Havahart traps work just as well.
Here is the little guy after I let him go free.

Rick? Is that you?
No, but I'll show you some more cool pics.
Here is a fawn we found when cutting a wheat field. This critter could not have been more than three or four days old.
Since we were going to burn the wheat stubble later we had to capture it. If you let a fawn go it will return to the exact same spot where its mother left it. Once I set wheat stubble afire not knowing there was a fawn in the field. That was not a pretty sight.
Anyway, we caught this guy and let him take up residence in a horse trailer until the stubble had been burned. Then we let it loose on a ditch bank next to the field. When we returned the next morning the fawn was gone and since there was no blood in the area we assumed he was found by his mother and not a coyote.

Cool pics but this is a thread about fur trapping.

Cage traps do not work as well for all species. On some species they excell, on others your catch ratio will be way down.
A properly sized and tuned foothold is often preferable to a cage trap when dealing with animal safety. Pretty much every major reintroduction of furbearers in the lasy century has relied on footholds to capture specimens.
Some species are more prone to injury in cages vs. foothold.

You should have battered and deep fried that fawn like a soft shelled crab!

I was just trying to figure out how I would have cooked that fawn.

Two sprung empty traps and three untouched.
Jumped a deer to the east of my trap, shined the light in that direction, 3 yotes looking right at me. Now I hate yotes AND deer.

I'm sure I'll have some of the same today. I normally check at 4am and have scared several off my traps. Actually get to check after work today, kind of excited. Also picked up a few thousand more acres yesterday. I'm going to have to have a serious parter next year.

Man don't let sprung traps discourage you. It just means you were damn close
I was walking across a field this morning and could see something in one of my traps. It was greyish brown and had its back to me. I could see no tail and I started getting excited thinking I had got the bobcat I was setting there for. Closer I got I kept thinking he sure is small it turned out to be a bob tailed coon
It was a hell of a night I got the coon two possums a rabbits foot and a robin foot. Tracks said a coyote got my rabbit and I don't know what got the robin but there were feathers everywhere
Good luck on your check tonight smoke

Started out with a pullout then I had this little guy. I didn't forget the springs just the pic until I started to pull him out.
Then my bad news. Had this guy pull out while trying to get the catch pole around him. To say I'm pissed is an understatement. Back to bullets for this guy.

I had a big tom pull out just as I got the noose around his neck. The next 30sec were interesting.

Wow. I would have lost my mind.

Dam. That close and it got away. I'd be pissed too.
I set some coon traps this afternoon. Will post pics if I catch. Not sure what affect the weather will have but I like my sets a lot.
How often do you have to boil/wax those traps?
If a trap is older and rusty does the boiling take off rust? Or must you keep it boiled/waxed to avoid it to begin with?
