So much for the get together but I had a blast slinging lead down range. Couple of my coworkers met me out there.

I saw the rimfire range, at the far end of the pistol range. That's a kick arse lil set up.

Rifle range:

Shotgun range:

Pistol range:

My Delta Elite awaiting its turn.

My 15-22. Those MBUS sights were just installed last week. Somehow they were dead on accurate. Didn't need a single adjustment.

Looks like a very nice range. Too bad it's so damn far away.

It's public as far as any person with a basic hunting or fishing license and $6 can use it.

So yeah. It's "public".

I have a place that is a little bit nicer than that down the road...but that SOB is 280 bucks a year to go shoot there...and another 100 bucks for my spouse.

Well maybe it is a lot nicer but still...most of the time it is just going frick off so Id love to just be able to go plop down and let some shots fly.

How do you know if you hit those targets though? They gotta be all shot up...and it doesnt look like they are retractable in any way as they are on sticks. Just curious...

They are just target holders. You put new targets on there. They yell the Line cold and everybody strolls down there to assess the damage.

Ahh...I got ya. There is a place like that on the beach that has some "brave" MF'n high school kids that run out and swap targets on a "cold hold"...I have only been there once though. There were 3 highschool kids running targets. I tipped them each $10 when I left....but I didnt see a single other person tip them shite. Not sure what the right thing to do is but I though it to be the least that I could do...they hustled and although it seemed pretty safe, they were still running around in a shooting range!!!

I'm whupped after boiling all day...my wife was kind enough to give me the day off tomorrow...

my daughter wants us to take her to meet the duck dynasty crew in metairie, but I'd rather be at the range...I may just go tomorrow with my son if the wife takes her to metairie...there is going to be a wait at the range I'm sure, considering I'll be sleeping late...

This range is run by an all volunteer organization. All of the range officers go through a wildlife hunters safety course and are certified instructors after completing the course.

Everything is very regimented. All cease fires are called and verified by the officers. All weapons are checked to ensure breaches are cleared and then the officers give the all clear. Shooters can then go out to change or move their targets. No one is allowed to touch their weapons while a cease fire is called. In fact, there's a "red line" painted on the concrete behind the firing benches and anyone who's not going down range to replace or move targets must remain behind the red line while the all clear is called.

Most shooters who are shooting for accuracy bring spotting scopes. They're usually out there with a 2nd person and that person acts as a spotter.

It really is a well run system and the officers help ensure a safe environment for everyone.
