Use water from where you buy your shrimp. We buy on the water when we need to and that is where we pump the water in for the live wells. If you have a dedicated recirculation pump for your live well use that, DO NOT bring in new water once you fill. If you cannot recirculate the same water without pumping in new water get a air pump or a drop in circulation pump.
I have seen shrimp kept alive all weekend in a bucket with a bubbler, no ice, no water changes, just steady salinity. Shrimp are pretty hardy creatures and you should not have a lot of deaths if any, especially over a 3 hour trip.

Wet newspaper and put them on top of wet newspaper then cover them up using wet newspaper. They will last all day.

I’ve always had the best luck keeping them in a 5 gallon bucket with a bubbler and frozen water bottle. Use a net to grab them as said. This way you don’t risk accidentally turning on your livewell pump or throwing something in or whatever.

Wrap a brick with a towel and put at the bottom of your livewell.
Works every time.
