Mfkin THIS. I'm paying you to put me on fish....go out and catch a limit or two of nice 2lb'ers. That's what I'm hiring you for.
Where it changes for me is if I feel he's went above and beyond. If you decide to take me to a nice sacalait hole for a dozen slabs after the bass, that deserves a tip. If I catch a mountable fish or two (~7+lbs) I'd feel guilty for not throwing in a little extra. If I catch a 10, you're definitely getting a nice tip.

I've only done coastal guides and I always thought the tip was more of a fish cleaning thank you on a successful trip. And it is worth every penny ($100ish) on a $4-500 trip. It's more on an offshore trip.
For a bass trip where he doesnt clean fish, $50 if you learned the lake or he taught you something.
