My 870 is set up for home defense from the factory. It has the 18" barrel but only a 4 round magazine tube. "Why did you get a 4 round magazine tube?" you may ask...

My dad had a spare 26" barrel with a 3" chamber and I use that for hunting. Using either barrel is simply a barrel swap away.

My only gripe with my 870 is the lack of a good finish. Like others have said, you may need to spend a bit more for a good finish. But I plan to get it cerakoted or duracoated soon so that should remedy the issue. And hell, at $350 bucks, I can't expect it to be a superhero. It still fires and still cycles reliably. A good finish comes 2nd.

I also strongly suggest you keep a HD shotgun basic. Some people love to hang all kinds of shite on it, but in all honesty, it isn't really necessary. I'd say at the most, you may want to put a light on it, an MAYBE put a saddle for extra shells. But chances are, you won't need those extra shells anyway and they'll just add weight. It's all about how prepared you wish to be.

My 870's (20 &12) are the workhorses of all my shotguns; they’re not the prettiest, but they are the most reliable.
Worth every penny.
