Appreciate the offer but I’m intentionally not demoing right now because I don’t want to buy for at least 6 months. If I start demoing now I’ll end up falling in love with something and make an irresponsible decision
ETA- I fish MS gulf coast and multiple south LA marsh areas

FYI, there's a guy on BCKFC selling a Jackson Coosa FD with the Boonedox Landing Gear for $2500.

I saw that. I’m staying strong for now.

Ask Drunken Crawfish about the Old Town. He swears by them.

Another friend of ours(Hobie owner) is about to buy one as well.

The PDL is the best fishing kayak out there IMO. It is as stable as a PA, but can top out at 5.5mph, it also has the most efficient pedal drive on the market at 10.3:1. (Insert plug about how superior instant reverse is here.) MinnKota is also a sister company to Old Town so they have tons of engineers that worked on that drive system and prop. Old Town also has A+ customer service.
$1,800 for a PDL is a SOLID deal. That's $1,000 the msrp. I almost bought a used one but I went with a new one for a few reasons. 1) Old Town offers a LIFETIME warranty on the hull and a 4 year warranty on the PDL drive, but that is only for the original owner. 2) I wanted the brown camo and all they had in the used market was the cherry camo.
If you are in or around CENLA, I'd be glad to let you demo mine.
ETA: The only downside I have found is the weight. At 117lbs it can be a bitch to lug around. I bought a C-Tug with it and it has solved my problem.

Appreciate the offer. I’m a central MS guy with a home base on the coast. I’m goimg to demo some stuff this fall. I went from a FS128T (90 lbs) to a KC12 which is 64lbs. Spoiled me in to a light boat. Makes me interested in the compass but I’d have to do some stuff to it. Ultimately, if I stumble across the right value buy at the right time I could see myself in almost any of the upper end pedal boats. Right now I think my favorites are outback, compass, or slayer but all that is subject to change. Regardless of value I don’t think I’d buy a PA14.

I actually had a Compass for a few months. Upgraded to the 180 drive, added H-rails, map pockets, added the rectangle hatch, moved the round hatch to the front, and had the sea-deck installed. The Compass has a great price, light weight and the open cockpit area makes it really nice. Unfortunately with that light weight, its not as well build as the outbacks. On the standing area, you can tell it is significantly thinner plastic. I am a 150# guy and the plastic would buckle when I stood up. It is also a really wet ride, which sucks in the winter. The rudder set-up is suspect as well. If you are looking at the Hobie's I would go with the Outback.
Ultimately the PDL fit my fishing needs better than the Compass did. I preferred the prop drive vs. the mirage drive. The PDL cuts through the water where the mirage almost "pushes" the water so you are less fatigued at the end of the day.
I have seen some quality control issues with the Natives that ultimately eliminated them from my buy list. If you go on their Facebook page, there are a good bit of complaints about a lot of their parts.
I think I had as much fun shopping for my kayak as I do having it.

Wow didn’t know the compass was like that. I had similar plans as far as rigging to what you listed but I’m much bigger than 150 so that floor flex would be a huge concern. I don’t love the outback setup but it’s such a good value boat because so damn many of them get sold for great deals. I’m not saying I wouldn’t buy a pa12 but 120lbs is more than I want want to deal with. I’m an overanalyzer so I’ve picked every boat apart and I’m still a cpl months away from being serious. Also doesn’t hurt that I really like my current setup.

I had cut down a few pool noodles and put them inside my hatch to offer some additional support. That helped, but I am not sure how it would hold up over the life of the boat.

Damn you beat me to it. I'm guessing Compass upgrades...... Btw, are you fishing Saturday? I'm probably headed to Choupique.

I am thinking about it. Not sure if I am going to take the PDL or the Blue Wave. If I am going in the yak I’ll probably stay on the east side.
