Great pics. Im interviewing at a few places now and one of them is in Sarasota. Would have to learn about all this redfishing and poling on the flats if that move happens

What years? Some years have stringer issues soft spots in the floor.

They will run in spit but rattle the fillings out of your teeth in chop. They pole about as well as any other tunnel if you can find one with the platform over the motor rather than in front. Your feet will always be wet because the cockpit drains suck a fat one.

They can be fantastic boats depending on where and how you fish.

We've vacationed in the Sarasota area in 2011-2013. Absolutely love it.

We had a house we rented on Longboat Key that was right on the water. I could catch more mackerel than you could carry right on the beach.

Never fished in the bay but it sure looked fishy.

Also, spent several hours in the Sarasota hospital with a stingray sting. That was fun.

question for the rod builders on here: I'm in the early stages of planning my second build which will be a 9' 6 wt. I've been researching guide sizing and seem to be getting mixed info. I'll be using snake guides and keeping them all to one size. What I can't figure out is what size to make them. Everything I read says to just make them all the smallest size, but I've seen everything from 3 to 1/0 for smallest size on a 6 wt. Anybody have any thoughts?

I prefer smaller guides but its just that, a preference. I'm not entirely convinced it makes much of a difference one way or the other.

I really can't remember off the top of my head which size is which on snake guides. I would suggest NOT using the same size though. I'd step them down.

also, look at putting single foot ceramic guides on your rod. They don't add extra weight but they make a huge difference in that they are much slicker than snake guides.
I have a 6 weight with Fuji SiC and titanium frames.
That rod is a rocketship.

yeah i keep reading about how awesome the ceramic guides are. I haven't ruled them out but haven't yet convinced myself that i'll like it aesthetically.

What is the reason for stepping down the guides? I've read This argument from a few different sources and it seems to make sense.

If you look at the 2nd picture that the author is using to make his argument you see that the line has a sharper angle when using the same size guides. That sharp angle will hurt your shooting ability for friction.

I really don't agree with his assessment of the line going through in the 1st picture. I think it makes it through in more of a straight line which would aid in shooting the line through the guides.

And if you can get past the unconventional look of ceramic guides you will be amazed by the performance.

That's a good point about the angle.

I may have to get some cheap ceramics so I can tape them up and see how they look.

Thanks for the help.

Make sure they're single foot other than the stripping guides.

Is money actually saved in rod building when building the first rod or two?
