I’ve been to Kansas many times but me and the old man want a change of scenery. Anybody have a rec of a good ranch in Texas?

Martin Hollow Outfitters Sonora, TX

Judd Martin

I have been 2 yrs in a row and will be going back this yr.

We killed 7 between 3 of us this yr and had 2 other misses.

Beautiful Hill country and he has access to over 20k acres

I like going with him b/c I can usually work a deal to access hunt during the day between hunts. Those things are excellent eating.

I think they have 5 or 6 properties. House is in Shamrock, the hunting is up tp 10miles away. Lots of food plots, as they also offer deer hunting. Pretty much any terrain you could want for turkeys. After hunting Easterns, all my life, those Rios sure make a decent hunter look like a super pro.

ETA. I watched a Jake trying to mount a road runner. That’s something I still laugh about

Look up Lonnie Walker Outdoors. He's got the birds. Not too far from Dallas.

Check out Maynard Creek Outfitters. I'm looking at booking one with them in the next couple years.

What kind of price are you typically paying for this set up?

the rates are what they are on his website for the axis deer as that is his specialty.

I only shoot axis does which are way cheaper. I killed 2 last yr and I think I paid $500 since I was already there for the turkey hunt and the time I was there was the off season for his axis rut

Maynard is 1k for 2 gobblers plus $1500 kill fee for axis buck. Not sure about prices on does or mgmt bucks.

U ever hunted rio in wide open country? U can hear 75 a morning easy. Sound like they 300 yds away but could in reality be 1300 yds. Takes adjusting if u have never been.

We dont do guided, we were gave a key, shown property lines first day and where roost were at our request. (Allthough guide a hell of turkey hunter) he picked us up n dropped us off

I've talked to Judd before. He's from Monroe area if I recall correctly and a jam up guy. If y'all ever have an extra spot on a Judd trip lemme know.

Just a little FYI, in Texas, trespassing is a felony. Pay attention to those property lines.

Had a lease around Wellington/Memphis. One of the largest population of Rios in the country up by the Salt Fork Prong of the Red River. We hunt down in Hill country now just because its closer, nothing like the eastern panhandle for numbers.

Rolla Outfitters is the place.
