On an August trip to Key West last year, wifey and I snorkeled all around Fort Jefferson out on Dry Tortugas. One corner of the fort had a cluster of pilings just covered up in tarpon chasing balls of lil shiny minnows. A TopDog or a silver spoon wouldn't have even been fair. So no i've never caught one to date, but I've put a hand on a few swimming by.

I live only an hour from Boca Grande Pass so I've tangled with them a few times. My best is over 100 lbs and it was a fight I'll never forget.

I've always wanted to catch a good tuna, I'd be curious to see how they compare.

Caught one with sardine on the bottom at around 65' at a rig fishing for snapper. Never thought I'd catch a silver king, albeit a small one.

Caught one that size trout fishing. Was a blast on lite tackle.

It's been at least 10 years since I caught a big tarpon but If I remember correctly the fights are pretty similar, strong as frick and like to go straight down. I could be off on the tarpon though as I said haven't caught once since I moved back to LA
