I planted winter peas twice - the first year I assumed I had a total crop failure because I never saw them. The second year I tried again - but also put up an exclusion cage. Same result as the prior year except inside the cage where they were growing like crazy. It turns out the deer were wiping them out as soon as they started growing!

I don’t plant the cereal crops until first week of October. The brassica needs to put on a growth spurt in hot weather to get tall.
Where I live. This is what works the best. Yes, army worrms are a concern. But I’ve never lost Brassica to them.
