We've killed two off of our lease that bottomed out our 300lb scales.

One was a sow that my dad killed that was well over 300. We had the head and hide in a bucket that cow minerals come in and I couldn't lift it by myself.

I have never seen or heard of a wild sow that large. They are continually having piglets that keep them drawn down.

Well, she was. I assume she wasn't fertile. We had her on trail camera for 2 years and she was always alone.

Is 300lb hogs the norm? No, but they are out there. I've seen 2 that looked like 55gal drums. If those 2 were not over 300 then there ain't none.

Yeah, bars are definitely the largest. They don't have piglets pulling of the weight and don't have the fighting/mating urges that keep the weight off boars.

And I have seen 300 pound hogs in SW Mississippi.

When my buddy gets drunk you can usually count on there being a couple 300# hogs with him.

That big fricker could destroy a foodplot in a night and no telling how many acorns in a year.

Did some simple math earlier and 4 sows could amount to 200 pigs in a year.

I killed a 305# sow in clinton and a week later my buddy killed a 320# sow at the same place. I don't think "extremely rare" is too accurate

I would categorize 2 300+ lb sows running around the same piece of property as extremely rare.

My buddy caught this one last year.
He was over 550lbs. Most likely got out of a pen somewhere.

eta.
he catches about 20 sows a yr over 300lbs.I believe it all depends on where you hunt them

we just got some property to start catching hogs
on with dogs. I will post some vids and pics when we get started

Considering my dad and uncles have been running hogs for close to 7 decades now and I have never heard of a sow that big, I would say it is extremely rare like a black panther.

I agree. If you are on/near deer leases that have a feeder at almost every stand you are going to have big hogs.

Why would anyone lie about it? I saw the one my dad killed, helped load it on the 4 wheeler, and saw the 300lb scale bottom out before the pigs head was off of the ground.

How much do you think the above pig weighs? The sow my dad killed was quite a bit bigger. Here's a 4.5+ year old buck in roughly the same place (a little farther away due to the mud hole the pigs wallowed out) with the same camera. Keep in mind that the camera is 6+ feet high angled down making both animals look smaller than they are.

I thinks hogs are much more difficult to estimate weight than deer

I will post pics this year as I will be catching them with him.

I will bet anything anyone wants that we will catch over 20 SOWS and 50 boars that weigh over 300lbs.

He catches 300+ hogs a yr by himself and now that Ive got my new ranger and dogs we will catch more than that this yr

We feed heavily year round, and south Texas is known for its protein-rich natural vegetation. We have killed 1 pig over 300 lbs (the boar in the OP) in the 15 years we have owned the place.
