I would like to I’ve owned just about every climber except the xstand and the summit. I be owned the lone wolf, ole man, and API. I currently own the Treewalker which in my opinion is the best. I am looking for an additional climber for under 250.00. The tree walker is over 400.00 with shipping. What does the OB say about this?

What are you trying to do with it? What features are important to you?
I’ve used ole man and summit stands forever but have a muddy being shipped to me in the next day or so. I picked it for very specific reasons.

Im a bow hunter and rifle hunter. I hunt public land. I will generally be using it to climb medium to small oaks.

I generally leave my stands in the woods but I’m not looking for something heavy because I generally walk at least .50 miles to each location

I have no experience with API but I've yet to meet a summit viper owner who doesn't like it. If I wasn't concerned about packing in and out every time that would be my choice. Just in passing seems like people either love or hate API, probably because of the chains.

On the summit viper, does it have teeth that bite into the tree?

Summits have teeth but they aren't sharp.
ETA: I've climbed pine, willow, tupelo, oak and poplar with mine without any issues. I don't have slippage.

Yes, both of them have more or less the same V-pattern with teeth on the tree side. The real difference is in how they adjust and cable vs chain.

I know the chain on the API adjusts pretty good. Doe you ever have any issues adjusting the summit with the cable system? How far apart is each increment on the cable?

I never have issues and I've climbed some very small to some very large trees with it. Each adjustment is a 3-4 inches:

Chains over cables.
The teeth have no equal - you cannot even force the bottom to slide down a tree, not even a young Nuttall or Water oak.
Most models nest together for easy carry without having to use straps or cords. Mine at least.

I own a Summit Viper SD and have zero experience with the API. With that said, I like the stirrups and bungee that Summit uses to secure your feet when climbing. I know some people that remove it. But I like it because the stand feels very secure to my feet when I pull the stand away from the tree. I also added a set of stabilizer straps from Thirdhand Archery that give me a ton of confidence in the overall safety of the stand.
