I hate a damn thief.

Again, it's not the cost. It's the principle of the matter.

I'm just glad they didn't take the handguns. I would be freaking.

damn, so you are a girl who hoards guns and carries concealed too?...if so, you may just get a few marrige proposals before the night is over...

and, to answer your question...yes, if you are sure the gun is gone, I would at least file a police report...juat go to the station and tell them what the deal is and that there is no evidence of a break in and it shouldn't be a big deal...but if you file a report, there is a remote chance that they find your gun in a pawn shop or something like that and return it...

also, some food for thought...if you file a report and have homeowner's insurance, someone may think you are trying to defraud the insurance company, so be careful if that is the case....

I didn't say go tell Eric Holder or Obama!!

Just flag down and tell a patrol deputy. Explain what happened as a WWYD to the deputy and see what he says. He'll probably scribble a few notes, give you his card and your covered.

I had to get a renters insurance policy when I moved in. This is my concern.

2 BRPD and a State Trooper live here. This is what I was thinking about doing.

Eta: And I ordered a .357 today. Guess I need to do this soon. Getting one gun stolen and two confiscated is better than one stolen and 3 confiscated. At least I don't have any fireworks.

Good lord. You've got popo living at the complex? Then just approach one of them, bat your eyes, twirl your hair and flirt with them!! Cops are the biggest hounds in the world. They'll probably go get the the gun back for you once you explain the situation

I hate to admit it, but when it comes to cops and women, you are correct.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll talk to the trooper tomorrow.

well, if you are going to file it on insurance, you will certainly need a police report....and even if you are not going to file the loss, I would still get one for the doccumentation...

when filing the report, I would not tell them that you suspect anyone in particular (if you do, that person will be questioned)...

What is this huge concern about getting your gun confiscated?
Are guns illegal in your new rental?

I'd go down there and give them the numbers off of the gun. MAYBE they'll call one person, but 99.999% chance they will just file the report and do nothing.

There's also the concern about having a gun stolen that is registered to you.

This wont do you any good other than him giving you the phn number of who to call.

Just call your local law enforcment or go to their HQ and report it. You dont have to say it was stolen or who you think stole it. Just let them know its been either stolen or lost. They can enter it into NCIC. If its found / located you will get it back.

We have people do this all the time. They leave a rifle on a tailgate or pistol on the roof and drive off.

File a report. Serial number is a must to report a stolen gun. If it shows up in a pawn shop they can then trace it back to you,

Yes. Report it. I work for EBRSO. You will need the serial number, make, and model. We enter the information into a national database. That way if any agency comes across it and runs the numbers it comes back stolen and belonging to you, the rightful owner. We actually recover stolen guns frequently. To everyone else on here, please document all serial numbers in case this happens.
