Christmas to New Year is when we generally start seeing good activity and extends to second week of Jan. That's when the big boys get a bit careless. I hunt off of Sligo road but I know that if you are east of Hwy 61 the rut is generally earlier.

January in Jackson, LA. Even into the last weekend of the season, they still can be found chasing.

in Clinton

I've hunted Angola Rd. and in Clinton often. Clinton is notorious for having an earlier rut. I've killed bucks in full chase mode in mid-December there. For St. Francisville, you'll see bucks following right now, but the scrapes will begin to collect leaves in a few weeks and the chasing usually occurs around Jan 1st. Most of my chasing has been observed from Dec 28th through Jan 7th. And by chasing, I mean rodeo type movement all day long.

I thought the Entergy place was always bow only. I used to hunt Fancy Point. Over the years we saw some bruisers crossing the gravel road heading past Entergy.

Maybe so. My neighbor hunts and they shoot a bunch of deer but he hasn't killed any bruisers. I know they shoot a shite load of does.

I used to hunt there also. Early 2000s.

I met the guy that manages it now. Some nice deer have been taken off it.

ETA: Back then the rut was usually between christmas and new years. In centreville now and its usually first week in January. They're starting to trail the does now.

I hunt north of Centreville now and saw some trailing last weekend. I hunted Fancy Point back in the early 90s before it got bought out from us.

Fancy Point didn't get sold until around mid 2000's, you all may have had a different club lease it out from under you but it wasn't "bought" out from under you

This is correct. I think we started hunting there in 97-98 and pretty sure it was owned by a logging company. Or maybe thats who we leased it from. Being sold in the mid 2000's sounds right, I hated losing that place.

2 guys owned the land until it sold in 06.

You should see the deer they grow on there now, the man that purchased it has a very strict policy on management and it has definitely paid off for him. Prob the strictest management I know of in the Parish as far as what he allows to get taken.

I hunt some family land just west of Clinton. I love that I can can get an early rut in there before the deer get that loving feeling at my other areas.

Its the perfect spot between the mississippi and thompson creek. Caught a lot of fish in both too.
We used to hunt the Mills property to the east before we hunted fancy point. Great land and location.

Mostly hunted in the back around what we called Mud Lake. Almost died one night on that pipeline in the front.

I hunt west of norwood in W. Fel and I don't think these deer rut hard for a defined couple of weeks like everywhere else

It seems like we see scrapes and all from now till the season closes, but no chaising, grunting etc. Its like is is drawn out so they aren't too worried about it, it is damn aggrevating.

Do y'all have a low buck to doe ratio? Could impact it some.

If I had to guess, id say 4:1. Not from lack of shooting does, we kill 12-14 deer a yr and 8-11 are does. 3 of us on 700 acres, only wknd hunters. All doe killing done by thanksgiving every yr and we don't bow hunt. we shot 8 pt or better. We see plenty of deer, just no chaising etc. I watched a 6 pt last yr in the field with 4 does and I swear he was gay. Everyone else taking rut wide open, he said frick the does

Lol. Maybe he was PC and didn't care for the sexual harassment.

Or maybe he got his arse beat by big daddy Buck that was in the area. Y'all off Thompson Creek rd?
