Wife and i bought a new house and moved in a few weeks ago. Started noticing little bugs, smaller than fleas, in the bathtub. Turns out they are called springtails. We have a jetted tub. Not sure where they are coming from or how they are getting in. Any of you baws ever dealt with this issue? I checked under the tub and it’s dry as a bone.

I've never heard of them living inside a house. They're commonly found in leaf litter and grass or weeds. And they eat organic matter, of course. There are other bugs that look similar, like grain mites. I still don't know why they'd be in a bath tub though. I assume they're whitish in color?

We had them in our sink when we first built our house. It’s a new neighborhood and we were told that with all the construction going on they were more active. They also said the reason you see them in sinks and bathtubs is because they are attracted to water.

Fill tub with hot water, dump in two gallons of bleach, run jets.

Turn on vent, close door.

Check every few minutes to make sure bubbles aren't outrageous.

Drain water.

Refill with hot water. Run jets. Drain again.

They are usually all in the lines and crevices

These are brown. They are super tiny. Like smaller than a flea. We dumped some vinegar in the water and ran the jets. Like 100 came out then. Thought we got them all, but a couple days later, they were back in the bottom of the tub, alive and well. I went outside and there is no dirt or flowerbeds past the slab. There is a good 8-10 inches of slab showing between the ground and the brick wall.

So Rando you’re saying try bleach? Have you done this before or you just googled it? From what I’ve been reading, people say this is part of a bigger problem. That said, I’ve looked for the bigger problem and can’t find it
