Eastern WA and OR are very dry and have some good upland bird hunting

Pic of a pheasant I took in Madras today, just a bit north of Bend.

Turkeys near the Eugene area.

We have ducks, grouse, and quail as well to hunt.

Why yes, I do. I will definitely be in contact when I come up there. I really cant get it off my mind of it now. The guy that offered me a job said that with my experience, I would always be able to find a job, I just had to find the right fit.

How much driving is it to get to the different terrains/ types of hunting? Am I looking at a 2hr drive from Portland to hunt elk, upland birds, blacktail? Or more like a week long trip/ across the state/ 8hr drive type thing?

Depends on where your tags are at or if you're hunting a general season. A huge amount of Roosevelt elk are around the coastal range not far from Portland. My friends drive about 20 from home to elk hunt only because they can't legally hunt the ones we see all the time in the country near St. Helens. That's a general hunt. Plenty of elk around.

You can be hunting birds locally or within 2 hours of many choices. It's only an hour east on 84 and it's dry and plenty of birds. Can hunt Ducks around sauvie island which is 15 min from Portland.

Do they have white perch and frogs? This is important.

This was at King Estate Winery. Tons of wild birds around there.

I bought my Chesapeake Bay Retriever from a vet near Bend, Oregon who is an avid duck hunter. He hunts before and after work most every day during duck season and kills ducks every day. He says that he hunts more for his son and his dog than for himself, as his dog loves fetching geese and ducks more than eating, and his son loves it as much as his hound.

I'd live in SE me. Anywhere near Belmont, Hawthorne, or Division st. Lots of restaurants etc. A realtor/landlord will know what areas you want.
