So I bought a new landing net...

So I got a call from a buddy of mine last week. He was raving about this new net that he bought @ Cabelas. It's a StowMaster Saltwater Landing Net, 84" model. Said he picked it up for $135 + tax. Now keep in mind that this friend of mine is the biggest penny pinching tight wad you have ever seen. For him to blow that kinda cash on a net was really something that caught my attention.
Considering that I've now got a 70mph boat, I need to get a net that can be stored in one of my boats compartments. My uncle lost about $500 worth of crankbaits last weekend when we took the boat out. Anyway, i bit the bullet & bought a new net per my friends suggestion. I did however get it for $119.99 shipped!

What says the OB?

I've always used the really cheap ones with the green net material that ends up ripping and I have to fix it.
I would be

jsmoke, I being primarily a freshwater fisherman think you are batshit crazy for dropping 120 clams of a fricking dipnet.

$134.99 @ Cabelas
It's supposed to be bad arse. I've got to have something that I can fold up and put into my compartments. My uncles crankbait box flew out of the boat last weekend while we were still doing the break in on the motor.

Main reason that I bought it was because it folds up real small. Only time I ever use a net is during a tournament anyway. Good to have a nice long net to scoop up those 8 pounders with.

I understand this. My landing net collapses into the dip part just like that. The little metal button rusted off so I took a SS bolt and wingnut to secure it. Been using it for 5-6 years like that.
I the grand scheme of things, you will most of the time anyway flip reds and specks over the side on that low boat. I keep it setup when fishing the submerged oysters around Shell Island/Empire Jetties in case I hook into speck/red zilla but any red to 6 or 7 lbs or a trout to 4 will get flipped in no problem.

I was actually pretty shocked that he spent that kinda money on a net. This thing has got to be freaking amazing because this guy is as cheap as they come.
He is actually fishing a tournament in Titusville FL this weekend, so we will see if the net makes a difference. LOL

I got one that folds up for less than $40 and it's about 5 years old.

ok so apparently I didn't think this thing through very well before I dropped $120 on a net. I see that I need to consult with you guys before buying anything else for the new rig.
Only other thing I bought this week was 6 gallons of optimax 2 cycle oil.

Isnt Mercury and Quiksilver the same thing? I had a certified Merc mechanic tell me this. Anyone know if true, its alot cheaper.

I use Optimax oil but was told I didn't need to spend that much on oil.
I told them I didn't care, my Opti would get the Mercury brand DFI oil made for the Opti.
But I still wouldn't have spent 120 bucks on a landing net....does it float?
Just in case you forget to put it up and it flies out the back of that 100mph boat of yours.

I saved enough money on the opti oil to warrant the purchase.
No it doesn't float.

Damn it should float AND blow you for 120 bucks

I'm probably going to attach a float of some sort to it just incase I forget to put it away. I'm looking forward to losing all kinds of shite once I get this motor broke in.
