I grew up in the country and I never killed every one of anything I saw. I can understand protecting your home from poisonous animals, but these creatures were created by God. Sometimes you have to look a little deeper for the beauty and reason in God's creation, but it's there. If they aren't going to do me any harm, of I'm not going to harvest them for food, then I give them their space to live.

Amen

You reap what you sow. Anyone who is too ignorant to learn the most elementary basics of snake identification deserves to get a little payback. There are only 4 basic types of venomous snakes in the United States. One of them will RARELY be seen even by those who search their whole lives for one, and can easily identified by a freaking nursery rhyme. One type has a goddamn rattle on its tail to warn you at a very safe distance. And the other two have a very distinct looking head - and if you're close enough to kill it, you're close enough to identify it. None of them remotely resemble a rat snake, a king snake, or most of the other species people usually kill for no reason.
ETA: The ONLY venomous snake in this country that should ever present a problem with misidentification is a cottonmouth vs. some water snakes. And if you spend a few minutes looking at pics of the cottonmouth's head, it is unmistakeable.

Those water snakes that fall in my yak can get a little confusing. I only have a split second to decide if I'm going to pull my CC Judge.

No, you don't. Because if you just calmly sit in your yak, the snake will quickly find its way out no matter what species - because that is its only intention in that situation.

You might want to be careful with that Judge in your yak, dude!

I'd carry my CC fully auto .22, but ammo in that caliber is hard to find.

You can call me a terrible outdoorsman if it makes your feel better, but I'm a huge pussy when it comes to snakes and I will kill them all, even if they eat rats

Never killed one in my life.

You guys couldn't have grown up in the country and depended on the animals you raised for food. Anything that threatened the food you put on the table was killed on sight, be it a snake, dog, cat or whatever.

Fwiw kill them all because my 3 yr old will likely try to pick it up and play with it. I can ID them just fine. If I start letting them live and he gets confused Im asking for a trip to the emergency room with my youngster. When he grows up I'll teach him the diff but for now they're all bad!
