Transmission went out in my '10 pickup, and I got a call from the mechanic that a complete rebuild would be $3,700. Could get a reman from Chevy put in for $4,500. He did say his rebuild would use a better torque converter. I have no knowledge of any of this. Am I getting screwed?
I had an '11 tahoe, with the 6 speed, not sure if you have that or the older trans, but I was less than $1500 for a take out and around $2500 for a remanufacture

Ford ships re-manufactured transmission with fluid. I would suspect GM does too. The 6 qts was probably used to flush the system prior to installation and then top off the system after installation.
Highcotton has the paper work to indicate he got what he paid for.

Personally and this is 100% with no experience, if I had a transmission go out early like sub 120k miles I'd probably get a reman. Seems more likely it has some issues with parts they aren't going to replace on a rebuild.
But if I had a 200k+ tranny I'd have no issues doing a rebuild. If you have parts that got to 200k miles and still look great, why would they not continue to work great? They don't replace the whole thing but why would you want them to? Shite works great.
