Sighting in a rifle...Need help

I'm sighting in my 7mm Rem Mag today. I have a 4x16-42 Nikon Monarch with the BDC reticle. According to the website, I should be dead on at 200 yards to be able to use the BDC at 3-600 yards. My problem is where I'm shooting I can only shoot out to 100 yards.
How high should I be at 100 yds to be dead on at 200?
Also, if I shoot a deer at 50 yards, assuming I'm dead on at 200, how high will this be?
I'm shooting Federal 140 grain Nosler Partitions. thanks, R.Head

1"-1.5" high at 100
My 30-06 is 1.5" high at 100. We reload and shoot as flat as a .270 so that should be close to the same for you
Eta: there's no much difference between 50-200 for a 7mm

Your 50 yard shot will be lower than your 200 yard shot.

As said 1" to 1.5" should do fine.

I always sight in at 200 yards and I shoot a .270, I've never really worried (or changed my shot location on a deer) about shooting a deer at 50 yrds or 100 yards. You should be fine with sighting it in at 100 yards for most normal plots; unless you launch some 300+ yarders.

If I shoot 300+ I put the horizontal cross hairs on his back and bull the trigger. If closer than I thought he drops like a rock. If 300 hits vitals

300+ yards. Wish this was my deer

Awesome, that's what I was looking for. I looked on their website but couldn't find this. Thanks for all the replies.

Just look at the ballistics for your round. It will probably show it zeroed at 200 and show the adjustments at other yardages. I shoot a 139 grain hornady in my .280 and it is flat at 200, but about two inches high at 100, then at 300 it is getting close to almost 6 inches in drop. Like I said, just look up the ballistics or they are probably on your box of bullets...

You may be dead on at 50 yds if you are 1" high at 100.

you plan on elk hunting. why not just have a 100 yard Louisiana rifle and you long distance cannon for elk?

dead on at 30 and 1" high at 100.

Pick your spot well at 50 yards. You could lose the whole front end of the deer if you shoot it in the shoulder

Winchester Ballistic Calculator
Click on the calculator at the bottom of the screen, enter your bullet, grain and sight in yards.. The calculator will do the rest.
