Should I replace mono backing on reel?

Changing out my braid and I cannot remember if it's recommended to change the mono underneath.

I would think it’s fine. If you put enough braid on you should never get to the mono

Unless it’s obviously dry rotted then I can’t think of a good reason to change it. Backing is really just there to take up space on the spool, and honestly isn’t really necessary with today’s reels. Nothing wrong with it if you’re trying to make a package of braid go further but that’s about the only reason to do it.

No reason to change.

No. I only put mono backing for grip so the braid won’t slip on the spool. Unless the mono looks dry rotted, just reuse it

What this guy said-keep braid from slipping

Nothing wrong with using mono but if you don’t want to fool with it a single wrap of Teflon thread tape around the spool will make the braid hold.
