I have a pretty typical 16" barrel AR. I shoot just for fun with my buddies or whatever. I've been thinking of getting another rifle. I'm interested in a short AR. Like a 7" barrel. Also really want an AK. Does the short barrel AR shoot any differently or quicker than a 16"? The short AR runs about $400. AK is $500. Which would you buy and why?

A 7” barrel 5.56 AR is retarded short, it will be godawful loud and have a huge muzzle flash while producing extremely shitty bullet velocities. Same with the AK pistol, however, most AK pistols have barrels a little longer than that and the AK is less affected by the shorter barrel because 7.62x39 fires a slower, heavier bullet that retains more energy.

Both are going to be extremely loud and have crazy muzzle flash. Would recommend running with a suppressor, but that causes overgassing issues to arise, which can usually be solved by either an adjustable gas block or an adjustable bolt carrier group.

AR, and if you're not going to run a can, don't even bother.

I built an AR off and 80% lower I had. I built it extremely cheap so that I could keep it in my truck. Have a 10.5” barrel on it and a KAK shockwave brace. I was told on here that 10.5” was about as short as you’d want to go.

It’s fun to shoot but it is loud.

5.56? I’m building a pistol for a truck gun but am looking at 8.5” 300BLK

I just built a 7.5” barreled .300 blackout. It’s awesome

Slap a suppressor on it and you’ll think you’re shooting a .22

Is a 10.5" ar more practical and functional or still the same issues? If I got an AK it would just be a stock AK. Not one of those short ones. Thanks for the input everyone.

Research alot on new AK47. There is a lot of junk out there. AVOID Century Arms for most part.

Yea those really short barrels only really make sense with .300 blackout coupled with a suppressor. I have an 8” SBR in .300 blk and it’s nice that even with a big suppressor it’s still shorter than a normal 16” AR-15.
