I had it happen in Grand Isle when I was about 14 fishing with my dad. Grabbed one of my trout and beat it with my rod till it let go. About 10-15mins later it came back and took it from the gills back. Told dad I was done and went to the truck!

I went spear fishing in Belize recently. One of the guys and guides stayed out longer than I was prepared to stay out and had a good catch on them. The guides were stuffing the fish in their pockets. Well, the nurse sharks were on them. They had to sit there and punch the sharks for like 20 minutes while we all loaded up on the boat and got over to them.

Ive had it happen around the Skyway Bridge in Tampa / St Pete when I was a kid. More than once, Always kept the stringer loosely tied so if one grabbed it they didn't also get me LOL! Long stringer that would drift down tide of me and a bucket of shrimp with a lawn mower innertube around the top to keep it floating. Almost always nurse sharks. Always saw sharks while in the water....never minded them a lot then. I wouldn't wade fish on most of the gulf coast now, not because of sharks but because its too damned nasty and flesh eating bacteria is real. Just kidding, ain't overly concerned about the latter.

There was a guy who attacked last year around Port O'Connor. Between the sharks and the rays I think I will just stay in the boat.
Me and a buddy was flounder gigging on the west end of Galveston one night and he fricked around and stuck a small ray....couldn't get rid of the damned thing. Gotta slide them feet....
That was back in the day when flounder gigging meant using a coleman lantern with a handle and a shield on the side to keep it from ruining your night vision. It was a lot of shite to carry and hotter than 2 rats fricking in a wool sock...fun times.

Stringer of specs on the waist belt is a feeding call....
Gotta use a LONG stringer so it drifts down tide from you and tie a slip knot. Even when I was 10 years old though I was heavy enough that even if the slip knot did not slip the shark would just thrash around until it ate through the stringer.....or thats what I told myself.
NEVER wrapped a cast net loop around my wrist though...never. Was told about a guy snaring a dolphin in Tampa with it tight around his wrist and he was never heard from again. No idea if its true but I have had one get caught it my damn trolling motor and it could cause one to fall their big arse off the boat if he weren't carfeful

how goddamn big a manatee really is
I had it happen to me in Tampa LOL. I thought I was about to reenact Jonah and the whale...had it happen in Cuba once also in an area I ought not have been wading in the first place BUT the snook were thick as cord wood and feeding.
That same spot in Cuba I had a similar experience with a shark but in the boat. The river channel was about 150 feet wide and at low tide only had about 4-5 feet of water in all but about 20 feet of that and that was only about 10 feet deep. Was tied up to an old wooden bridge and noticed a "bulge" heading down the river....had no idea but something MASSIVE was swimming down that river and pushing water ahead of it. When it cleared the bridge it was a MASSIVE shark....at least 15 feet long and looked about that broad at the shoulders. I was in a 22 foot hurrican deck boat I had stripped down to nothing but a center console (made a helluva fly fishing deck) and I almost think that shark was as long as that boat....seemed like it took it forever to swim past me. I assume a bull but do not know for certain. It was a big bastard though....pushing water like a damned submarine.....

I used to fish the surf a lot. There was a spot on the Boliver side of the Galveston jetties that was usually always protected from the wind. It was a pretty dependable place to catch trout from July into September. I would put my fish in a donut. That worked well until one day I’m plodding along and suddenly I feel a violent tug on my donut and I turn around to see a massive fin. It was a pretty big Bull Shark and it scared the living shite out of me. I think it must of got tangled at first because it damn near pulled me over. It pretty well destroyed my donut and most of my fish were in pieces. I was scared to even try to touch it in the water thinking the damn thing would return. That encounter and having a friend get nailed by a ray along with the damn Vibrio has pretty well ended my wade fishing career.

You are in their home when on the water. If they eat a fish off your line or rip your daughter's arm off when swimming, thats just something we have to accept. If you don't like those terms, stay home and play video games.

I'm ready for those retarded beliefs to go away.
What? That isn't a "belief," much less a retarded one. Its an indisputable, cold-hard fact. If you want a 100% chance of not being bitten by a shark, don't go into the ocean or bay. If you want 100% assurance that a shark won't eat your catch, then don't fish in the ocean or bay. Simple as that.

I’ve had a shark get to my stringer before! I stay in the boat now.

Yes. Wacked one in the head with a rod tip before at Freemason. He hauled arse. I’ve only lost a couple trout on a stringer. I also make sure that stringer isnt close to my legs and far enough away in case another shark gets brave
