Hot dang. How often you have to sharpen your blades? I know from when we had cattle/cut hay, bahia is tough on blades (cow's teeth too).

i rotate thru 3 sets of the generic brand blades, swapping about every 3 months. that bahia is horrible...its the bane my existance

my property used to be part of a dairy farm
one day i'm going just set it all on fire and dance around naked while it burns

I like SCAG, I've put almost 700 hours on one in less than two years. I paid extra to have the Kawasaki motor put on it, hence- I've had no motor problems. Grease fittings on every part on the machine that moves is also a plus. I've had numerous issues with scalping and deck leveling. I don't care for the singular adjustment bolt and locking studs used to correct deck issues. Operator platform is very small, deck lift has no spring assist, and there is no fuel gauge- at all. The Kubotas have covered all these issues, but only offer their comparable Commander series with a Kohler engine. You have to step up to a full commercial Kubota to get their gas engine. From a homeowner standpoint, SCAG is plenty durable and even offers helical blade bearings, so as long as you keep her greased it'll do you fine. If you're willing to spend a few more bucks, I'd give the Kubota at least a demo to compare.

ETA: look in the background at all the Kubota machines in that shop. There's a reason I've traded in SCAG & JohnDeere. But I'm cutting commercially, so that does make a difference. Personally, I have a Kubota 222 for my lawn.

ive seen the "no fuel gauge" comment a couple of times...the fuel fill cap on my scag has a gauge. did i get a special cap or something?

also re: scalping/leveling ive never had an issue but i can see where adjustments might be hit or miss. my deck lift is a foot pedal, push it down and the deck comes up

I think the older single-tank models had a fuel gauge in the cap. Newer ones have dual tanks that are contoured to serve as fenders too, so the dipstick gauges can't be used. I cut at the lowest possible setting, so that's why I have issues w scalping and having to make sure the deck is completely level.

I have a 2001 exmark 60" with 25hp kohler. 650hrs on it no problems.

Worked for a lawn service that used scaggs, Great mowers, no problems with the ones we were using.

Bought a 52" SCAG freedom Z with the 27HP brigs vanguard engine back at the beginning of may. Have 9 hours on it so far and absolutely love it. I went from cutting 1.5 acres in 3 hours with a riding lawnmower to 45 minutes with the SCAG. For me it was defiantly worth the investment.

Man I dropped the deck to 2.25 on that scag this weekend and the cut was gorgeous. I suppose if I set it lower I'd scalp the lawn but it seemed pretty nice as it was.

I have a barn full of Kubota equipment. Hate to be disloyal, but Lawd that Scag was the tits.

I'm cutting Bermuda, so the cut needs to be low. Like I said, for a homeowner that Scag will do you fine. You're already ahead of the game staying away from anything that the big box stores sell

Tried Scag but ended up with a 24hp 61" diesel Ferris. The ride and suspension is not even comparable.

What did it run you?

Been shopping mowers in that range, haven't looked at SCAG yet. Ferris and Grasshopper are leaders in the clubhouse so far. Both in the 7-8k range.
