I know there are a lot of different factors that contribute to the rut but the main trend has been the photoperiod (difference in length of day light).

it always takes place some time around when the time changes (shorter days).

No offense intended but the fricking government changing the clock does not influence the rut.

Bucks are chasing in NWLA right now. Deer are moving every morning and afternoon, because the moon has been covered up the past 3 nights. It's out full tonight... shits getting real on our places.

Wow, where do you hunt? I hunt in NW MS and the earliest it will happen is around Thanksgiving. The pre-rut can look a lot like the actual rut...

I hunt in NW Louisiana. I know it is early, but every year around that time the does were always in heat and the buck always had wet tarsal glands. Our biologist even confirmed that the rut is at that time. It was nice cause it was the first weekend of rifle, leaving the rest of the season to relax and shoot does.

Really?

If you live near the equator, day and night are nearly the same length. The further you move away from the equator there is more daylight during the summer than in the winter. Have you ever noticed that the sunrise/sunset changes a couple of minutes everyday? Over time those minutes add up. We change our clocks to compensate for the shorter days. Daylight savings time is also an effort to save energy. All I am saying is that the time change tells us that shorter days are here and that the rut should begin soon. Its just an easy reminder for humans, not a determinant in the time of the rut.

No offense to you either...
