I've read all of the old threads on this board about taxidermy, but most are referring to deer and ducks. Google is somewhat helpful, but so many of these guy's websites are so outdated I can't tell if they are still even around.

I caught an alligator snapping turtle a few years ago, a pretty decent size (it was damn hard to get into my little pirogue). I dried it out and cleaned it up, all of the scales ended up falling out so it's bone white now. I've got the skull and shell hung up at my camp. I'm looking for someone to either dip it and make it bright white or, if possible, make it the color it was originally and then mount the skull and shell on something.

TIA

Well ideally I'd like it to look like it did before the scales fell off.

Yeah that's not gonna happen. Once it bleaches, there is no going back.

Go to the local beauty supply store and ask for the highest concentration peroxide bleach they have. It comes in a gallon jug like regular bleach but it is gell. Brush it on with a paintbrush and keep an eye on it everyday. normally takes 2 to 4 days and it will be Snow White

It’s just bone at this point. You’re not going to get the look of it having scutes again.

That will work to get it white no doubt. Downfall, if it’s anything like a skull mount, it will yellow overtime. I just go the paint route now on skull mounts and such. Also, doesn’t make them brittle like bleach will do from my experience.

you could get it hydrodipped in camo or some other design. Freddy smith in french settlement does some cool stuff.

I had one that sat in a shed for years. Just go get you a darker oil stain. It won't look alive, but it will look better. Put light coats, and it will have streaks and highlights, making it look natural. I did this with a bleached out set of elk antlers also
