I have a half dozen of these flying around my back porch every evening.

They have quickly become the only wasp I like. Mainly because the males don't sting and they consume other wasp larve.

Any of y'all have red velvet wasp at your homes?

Never heard of it. I have red velvet ants around my house. What does the wasp look like?

It’s the same thing. I have never heard them referred as that though.

Same here.

We always called the females "cow ants." I've never been stung by one of these, but I heard it's painful. I've been zapped by an assassin bug, though.

Honestly have never seen a male with wings. Learned something new today. Always thought they were ants.

Found one in my yard last weekend. I didn't know what it was and had to look it up.
