I have a DeWalt corded circular saw with the electric brake option, only saw that runs smoother and has base without the idiot hole near the front of the blade is the Makita 13amp saw. Only reason I chose it over the Makita is that is has a reinforced magnesium base vs the stamped aluminum on the Makita which I've had bend from falling off a 5 gal bucket at a jobsite.

I'v had a Makita sidewinder for years and am very happy. Bought it on recommendation from a framer who said its all they use. amazon makita
I don't think I will ever understand the love for a worm-drive saw. Heavy and expensive. The love must be a hold-over from when it was the majority saw on the market.
As far as power goes, the only time I bog my makita is when I'm using a very dull blade or the wood goes nuts and I have to stick a wedge in the cut. Literally not once have I thought "I wish I had more power". The expensive worm drive will probably last longer than a sidewinder but I'd rather spend another $100-150 on a new sidewinder in 15 years than deal with the clumsy-ness of a wormdrive for 30.
One benefit I can see with a WD is the less likely-hood of kickback. But this is mostly due to how heavy they are so you could just tape a couple bricks to your sidewinder and voila.
