I’m looking to recess the foot control on my boat. It’s an 18’ xpress if that means anything. I planned on doing it myself. Any pointers? Any brands that you would recommend or stay away from. Also how should I run the drain? The compartment below it is carpeted so I don’t want to have it drain straight into there and mildew. Any help would be appreciated.

Good questions. I've been meaning to run some tubing from the drain ports on mine. Still can't believe xpress got away with installing only those plastic ports. They are barbed and ready for a connection.

I did mine in my H51. Measure twice and cut once. I laid my pan upside down to get the OD then cut a 1/2 using masking tape to get the ID. I used a jigsaw and needed a sawzall to cut through a brace I was parallel in.

If you fish using a seat make sure the tray is far enough forward.

I routed the drain on the side of the rigging tube that runs the length of the boat.

Both of my trays are R&R from black bear sporting goods. All metal but you will need a fitting for the drain. I used a pex fitting and epoxied it in.

Personally I think it's an awesome idea. I'd be concerned about water getting stuck in there; however you drain it be sure it drains it all and doesn't leave any standing water in the housing.

I put a Comfortroll tray in my X19. My only regret was not doing it sooner. I use a leaning post with a butt seat. Location is critical, measure and make certain you’ll be happy with where you cut the hole. You will have to cut through a cross brace so be prepared to have a decent length blade on a sawzaw or such. I drilled a hole to drop a jig saw blade in and started it like that then used a sawzaw to cut through where the braces are because it’s thicker. Xpress has a piece that goes across the front part of the tray but inside that has their logo I believe. It has a cup holder and hole to drop needle nose. I’d get the tray from them or at least that piece and tray that it matches as it would be nice to have. Good luck with it.
