Be careful with the prognosis from MSU and don’t be afraid to get a second opinion from a private group. I’m not sure how MSU is, but my pup was sent to LSU vet when she got diagnosed and it was a pain. They basically told me she’d never walk right again and would definitely never hunt birds. Thousands of ducks later would suggest differently. LSU is a teaching hospital and they pushed pretty aggressive treatments and prognoses on us immediately. I brought her to a bird dog specialist for a second opinion who recommended minimally invasive surgery at a private facility in Mandeville and the outcome was great.

To the untrained eye that hip almost looks subluxed or dislocated?

The vet pulled and stretched that leg and hip backward and it made a loud popping noise. Almost like it was subluxed or dislocated and popped back into place. Instantly he was back to normal and no issues since.

That’s a good vet. A lot of vets out there would have taken you for a $$ ride.

Very good friend of mine is a vet surgeon.

He's literally written books on different surgeries that are used in vet programs.

He's here in Memphis and he's one of the best.
He knows Lee very well.

His place is Memphis Veterinary Specialist. He does a lot of surgeries on dogs and has seen most everything. He is not cheap but would you rather have someone that does a particular surgery once or twice a year or someone that does that surgery 3-4 times a month?

I don’t read xrays on dogs, but the hip certainly looks dysplastic on the right (left side of image). Acetabulum has loss of normal rounded contour and flatter roof essentially compared to the good side.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they have some good options for you.
