Putting an old Lyman Perma Center 4x (~1960) on a Marlin Model 60

It has a crappy Weaver scope (D4?) on it right now, but I have the old Lyman from my grandfather's Woodsmaster 740 30-06, I put a Leupold Freedom 3-9 on that one and I like it fine. So the old scope has just been sitting in my office for years, and I use it to look at random things out the window, such as which dog is pooping in the yard. Anyway, why shouldn't I put the Lyman on the Marlin? It's still really clear, much better field of vision than the Weaver. Might be fun to get the old rings off of it. I found some dovetail rings for $15, not really a big risk but wanted to throw this out there in case someone tells me this is a dumb idea for a reason I haven't thought of.
