a pain in the arse but they are generally good to have around. Except when there's one in your 55 gal drum of dog food, and you unknowingly stick your hand in their, grab it and shite your pants.
I was keeping a plastic trash can of feathers for a friend of mines mom to make pillows. Noticed it was knocked over. Went to stand it up and a huge one was making himself at home.

They frick ticks up. And aren't known to carry rabies. Possums can be a pain in the arse but they are generally good to have around. Except when there's one in your 55 gal drum of dog food, and you unknowingly stick your hand in their, grab it and shite your pants.

A good BM is a good BM and that would be a SPECTACULAR one were it me...that possum would tell anyone that would listen to steer clear of folks...they stink!

Growing up my dog killed a possum in our back yard. My dad went and hit it over the head with a shovel and threw it in the trash to take out the next day in our garage. Next day the trash can lid is off and there is trash everywhere. This little guy then proceeded to crawl up the garage through our breeze way and get into the house between the first and second floor rafters. We could hear him running around up there for a couple days. All this was during thanksgiving with all the family over and of course everyone had ideas on how to lure him out. All of a sudden everything was quiet again. Ended up falling between the walls and got stuck and died. He then started to horrendously stink and we had to rip the sheetrock out to get him. Good family memories.

I did some googling and it looks like you're right. The study that was done where the possum got the reputation as a tick annihilator was a study on Lyme disease. Basically they put 6 critters in cages with a bunch of deer ticks. Some of the ticks in the possum cage got ate. The media got wind of it a boom, the legend of the possum being a tick destroyer was born. However future studies of wild possums show that ticks are not a very big part of their diet. Yet me and thousands of other dumbasses believed the contrary. This is a good reminder to heed the words of Ole Honest Abe:
