Hey guys if any of y'all hunt in west feliciana which is area 1 they are thinking of changing it to to area 6. This would allow bow hunting until Feb 15, which for us is when the second rut is just starting. Primary rut in this area does not occur until first week of January at earliest for this area, from our experience. The wildlife and fisheries is taking public comment today and tomorrow. Please join me and email your support of this move. Your email should state that you hunt in West Feliciana Parish, West of highway 61, and you are in FAVOR of moving to area 6 Send email to agent Smith At ssmith@wlf.la.gov.
Please get others to do so as well

Thanks Guys.

I think the areas they are proposing is kind of dumb to be honest. If they moved all of W. Feliciana to area 6 that would be great, but they are proposing only moving the western half of it. Hwy 61 will be the border. East of 61, you will be in area 4 now, with doe days.

I agree with that...I'm not for splitting it up based on hwy 61.

I take it you hunt on the wrong side of 61

I seem to remember you bitching about not having bow season to the 15th.

I'll actually be hunting on both sides of it but just seems silly to have a parish split like that.

ETA: Hwy 61 is gonna be the dividing line. Know how many deer I've seen cross that hwy? End of January they better all get on the east side till the 15th

Yeah, cat island is west of 61, so it will be in area 6. The thing is, i dont understand why 61 was the boundary, why not make thompson creek the boundary since all of east fel. is going to be in area 4. I know places that have way more deer/better hunting east of 61 than some areas west of 61. You can flip that statement to, it all depends which area in the parish you are in. Thats why the 61 divider makes no sense to me.

I imagine the thinking is that hunter density is thicker per acre on the east side of 61 and/or the deer numbers and patterns are similar to east Feliciana and Tangipahoa parish. Just a guess

If they would have done any research the would have found this to be far from the truth! Look at those areas along thompson creek from the bluffs to 61, plenty of deer.

Doesnt effect me i can hunt mutiple places in either zone, but actually one of my best spots is in the new zone 4.

Yea its dumb to do it that way. Would make a lot more sense to make Thompson Creek the line. Only other reason I could think of is people actually hunt on the creek so what zone would that be. nobody hunts on 61
