I have a lot of vegetation along the edge of the pond behind my house. In short, I want to kill the vegetation but not the fish. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not really familiar with store bought roundup up but Ag Roundup has a surfactant in it.

Diuron works well for me to control pond weeds, Moss, and heavy algae blooms

pondboss. You can color your water to limit sunlight, use poison, or whatever. Lots of experts there.

RODEO herbicide. It’s glyphosate which is active ingredient in Roundup but without the surfactant. The surfactant is what harms the fish.

Vegetation growing in the water or growing on the bank but not in the water? Can you include a picture(s) of the weed(s) you are wanting or needing to control. Identification of the weeds is the first step to giving you a proper recommendation for control with herbicides.

Never owned a pond, so I'm curious why you don't want vegetation in it. Is it not good for the fish?

Do not apply a herbicide with a surfactant to water!!! It will make a film on the top and interrupt O2 supply in the pond.

Here is an aquatic glyphosate product LINK It is similar to Rodeo.

I would recommend getting a permit for a couple of triploid grass carp. They will live for 15 years and can handle the problem.

A small to moderate amount of aquatic vegetation is good to provide protective habitat and “food” resources for the fish population but excessive submerged or emergent vegetation can interfere with fishing, degrade the aesthetics of the pond and in extreme cases result in oxygen-related fish kills in late summer/early fall during extended periods of cloudy weather and heavy rainfall.

Although diuron (Karmex) is a good herbicide to control many aquatic weeds, it is illegal (federal violation) to use diuron in recreational fish ponds - not labeled for that use. Does MS still have a active Section 18 to use diuron for planktonic algae control to mitigate off-flavor in commercial catfish ponds? Louisiana’s Sec18 for this use expired some years ago..
